We found out that the applications for Teacher training had already closed for this year and had to figure out a change in tactic for how Howard was going to spend his next year. Ethan also had to break the news to his friends and family which was incredibly nerve-racking for him.
Ethan and the team spent a long while discussing his reasons for feeling anxious about applying for the course and trying to combat this. We spent sessions preparing a strong application and worked to do this in a fun and collaborative way to keep anxiety down.
Ethan came to a number of the workshop sessions (interview skills and budgeting) where he actively took part. Ethan also came to the mock interviews where he performed brilliantly and took on all of the constructive feedback into his actual interviews.
In our sessions, we applied for teaching assistant roles and helped to build up Ethan’s CV. We looked at job searching skills and helped to create a routine with applying for roles. Whenever Ethan struggled with anxiety surrounding jobs, we slowed down and spoke about this. We also worked on solving issues in their personal life to help make job searching easier for them.
Creating the application early means that Ethan has an impressive application to send off before the deadline when they reopen.
Ethan always took on constructive feedback and put this into action. They pushed forward with applying to roles and navigating the issues in their personal life.
Ethan said that his anxiety towards applying for roles has massively decreased and now he is starting as an apprentice Teaching Assistant next week! Ethan has been supported to send off an ATW application and we are working on discussing reasonable adjustments to help Ethan settle into his role.
