David’s Story

David Struggled to engage with external services such as the Jobcentre. Because of this they referred him to the RISE project for support. He started to come to the appointments with his mum, but missed quite a lot of appointments, due to his mum's availability. David had little confidence and direction. As well as this, David struggles to travel independently and is reliant on family members to help him get around. He has little experience in work but would like to find employment.

We started to get to know David, learning about what he likes and where he would like to travel to in the future. He has done some amazing things already such as help build a WW2 tank. We pulled together his qualifications, experience, and skills to create a CV. Together, with David, we looked into a security course for him to attend. However, the transport issue was a major barrier for him to attend the course. Whilst we were waiting for the next course to happen, we started a job search. After a couple of weeks David was independent enough to job search by himself.

My life has changed since being on the RISE I have created a CV and learned to organise better.

The best thing for me was the fact they came to my home when I was unable to go to them due to mums’ health issues.

Not long after this, David was called to an interview. The job was with a local firm that knew the family and were willing to give him a trial. After a month of being there, David was still enjoying the job and the company gave him extra hours. David is now employed and able to afford driving lessons to gain his own independence, which could also lead onto delivery jobs in the future.
